Use 1440 x 1800 px (4:5) for Feed images (Meta's ad spec) and 851 x 315 px for a Page cover. Facebook publishes no size for ordinary organic posts, and events accept a cover in any dimensions, so for those the work is protecting the center of the image (our recommendation).
Every size and limit below comes from a Facebook or Meta help page, checked on October 2, 2026. Design advice is labeled as our recommendation or our calculation, because Facebook does not publish it. For other networks, see our social media image sizes guide.
What are the Facebook image sizes at a glance?

| Event cover | any dimensions | any | No recommended size published |
What size should a Facebook post image be?
For organic posts, Facebook publishes no recommended dimensions that we could find, so we will not invent one. The closest official guidance is the ad spec for Feed: 1440 x 1800 px at 4:5, JPG or PNG, up to 30 MB, with at least 600 px of width. Meta also says the 4:5 vertical ratio is recommended for single-image Feed ads, and that both 1:1 and 4:5 are supported in Feed.
Our recommendation: default to 4:5, because a taller image fills more of the phone screen. The same Meta page recommends 9:16 for Stories, Status and Reels placements.

Square works too (Meta lists 1:1 as supported in Feed). If your team already makes 1:1 posts for other networks, you can reuse them in Feed.

For Feed ad copy, Meta recommends 50 to 150 characters of primary text and a 27-character headline. Those sit outside the image, so do not repeat them in it.
What size is a Facebook Page cover photo?
Facebook's help page for Page profile picture and cover photo dimensions gives a minimum of 400 x 150 px. The fastest-loading file is an sRGB JPG at 851 x 315 px and under 100 KB. It adds that a PNG can give better results when the cover contains a logo or text.
The page describes the cover as left-aligned and full bleed, with a 16:9 aspect ratio on computers and 2.4:1 on mobile. Those two ratios do not match each other, and 851 x 315 is neither of them (it is about 2.7:1), so our reading is that the ratios describe the shape Facebook displays and the pixel size is the upload target. We could not find any other official figure, and we do not repeat the display sizes that third-party guides quote.
How does a cover crop on mobile vs desktop?
Facebook says the cover is cropped and resized to fit different screens, that the profile picture covers part of its left side, and that on mobile the profile picture overlaps the cover by about 40 px. The table applies those rules to the 851 x 315 upload. The visible-area rows are our own arithmetic, assuming the image stays left-aligned as Facebook describes, not Facebook figures.
| Computer | Mobile | |
|---|---|---|
| Display ratio | 16:9 | 2.4:1 |
| Upload target | 851 x 315 px | 851 x 315 px |
| Ratio of that file | about 2.7:1 | about 2.7:1 |
| Visible width at full height (our calculation) | the page does not define it | about 756 px of 851 |
| Trimmed on the right (our calculation) | the page does not define it | about 95 px, 11 percent |
| Profile picture overlap | covers part of the left side | about 40 px |
Our recommendation: keep text and faces inside the left 750 px and away from the lower-left corner, and test a draft at both ratios before publishing.
What size is a Facebook event cover?
Facebook's help page on adding an event cover says you can upload it in any dimensions or aspect ratio. It gives no recommended size, so any figure you see elsewhere is a convention, not a rule.
Because the displayed crop can vary, our recommendation is a horizontal image (16:9 is a safe shape, matching the computer cover ratio) with the title and date in the middle third. Put the event name in the image only if it is short, and also write it in the event title field, so a trimmed edge never hides the only copy.
What size is a Facebook profile picture?
A Page profile picture is 320 x 320 px for best quality. It is cropped to a circle and displays at 176 x 176 px on computers, 196 x 196 px on smartphones and 36 x 36 px on most feature phones. Our recommendation: because a detailed logo gets small, use the mark alone, centered, with margin inside the circle.
How do you keep Facebook images consistent with other networks?
In our experience, cross-posting the same file rarely works, because the networks favor different ratios. Our Instagram post sizes guide shows how the same design looks at 1:1, 4:5 and 9:16, and the X and Twitter image sizes guide covers that network. The simple fix is one layout per ratio that shares fonts, colors and margins. In Chikaboom, a designer builds that template once, and the team only fills the text, with sizes locked and text shrinking inside its box instead of overflowing. You can try it in the live demo.
Checklist before you upload
- Feed image: 4:5 (1440 x 1800 px) or 1:1, JPG or PNG, text inside the margins.
- Stories or Reels ad: 9:16 (Meta's recommendation). Our recommendation is to keep key content away from the top and bottom edges; see Story and Reel safe zones.
- Page cover: 851 x 315 px sRGB JPG under 100 KB, or a PNG for logos and text.
- Cover content: inside the left 750 px, clear of the lower-left corner.
- Profile picture: 320 x 320 px, centered, readable as a circle.
- Event cover: horizontal, key content in the middle third.
